In his new autobiographical novel Memoirs of a Misfit, Steven Binko shares his emotional journey through self-discovery. We have the scoop on everything you need to know about this future bestseller!
As a long time fan of Binko, I was honored when he invited The Rumor Mill to preview this coming release. Everyone loves a good underdog story, and this book successfully mastered the art of relatability. Even if you have no idea who Steven is, you find yourself laughing and crying as you read. Put simply, this book has something for everybody.
“Even though I’ve had some extraordinary experiences, I wanted to talk about the things we face on a day-to-day basis. Some of the topics are unconventional, but I’m confident that most people can relate to heartbreak, hope, and trying to find a sense of direction.” Binko tells me.
Calling some of the topics “unconventional”, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was really code for “controversial”. Binko has a reputation for pushing the envelope, so the playing field with a book about his life is limitless with possibility. Surprisingly, even the chapter about exploring a threesome was substantially introspective and philosophical. The delivery was flawless and maintained a sense of vulnerability, making it impossible to be critical of his choices.
The most heartbreaking chapters are those in which Steven talks about his suicide attempts, and divorce. It is evident that his husband made a significant impact on his life as this is a reoccurring topic throughout the book. On several occasions, I had to step away from reading as I found myself getting emotional. I am still at a loss for words with how eloquently and respectfully Binko addressed this aspect of his life.
From prostitution, to addiction recovery, relationships, and mental health, Memoirs of a Misfit is the perfect tell-all that ironically has you begging for more. I asked whether or not readers could expect a future installment. "My life is ever-changing," Binko said, "so there’s definitely an opportunity to take readers along on that journey."
Memoirs of a Misfit is tentatively slated for a June release.
